Speckled Hen Back Incredible looks and action for so little money! I think most tyers would agree that there is no feather more valuable to tie nymphs with than partridge. We highly recommend that you consider to spend about $25.00 or so on a full dyed brown partridge skin. However, many of us may not have the money to spend or could use a partridge substitute in many situations. There are plenty of situations in tying where every tyer could use one of these inexpensive skins. Trust us, you will find endless uses. ''Maybe its me, but I feel kind of bad using a partridge feather for tailing material or other uses where I need to make my flies a little more buggy or add a little action. Have a nice, dyed hen back on your desk and see how many times you reach for it. Just remember, pluck a few barbs out here and there. You don't want to use too much and have your soft hackle be too full. Sparse is best! One turn does wonders!'' Capt. Dave C. |
